Love clicking pictures? Check out 10 fun, interesting photography facts by ace photographer Nishan Kohli

They say photography is the story that you fail to put into words. It is an art of observation, and a true love affair with life! And this brings us to a fact that photography is no longer a herculean task like how it used be a decade ago. All it takes now is a gentle tap on your smartphone and there you go capturing moments and freezing time, as many times as you want! Nishan Kohli, an award-winning photographer, adores this art and shares 10 interesting photography facts to blow your mind off!

1.      Clicking a picture back in 1820s wasn’t as simple as ‘Say Cheese, Click ClickClick’. Cameras back then took several hours to record a single film. Technology is miraculous!
2.      Cheerleader effect is a real thing. Also called the group attractiveness effect, it is a sort of cognitive bias which makes an individual more attractive when photographed in a group.
3.      The astronauts who captured iconic images of Moon’s surface abandoned 12 Hasselbald cameras on the Moon in order to carry 25kg of lunar rock samples back to Earth in their place.
4.      Left side of our faces are more photogenic and exhibit a high intensity of emotions than the right one. There you have the key to a perfect selfie!
5.      Funny cat photos and videos are a rage on the Internet today, and the‘trend’ has been going viral since the 1870s with a Brighton photographer Harry Pointer posting unusual pictures of cats with silly facial expressions.
6.      As reported by the Gunnies Book of World Records, an annual photo competition called Wiki Loves Monuments is the largest photo competition till day with exactly 353, 768 entries.
7.      Insanely long exposure times back in the day forced people to stay still for hours just for a single shot. So now we know why we don’t see smiling faces in old photos!
8.      Carry a picture of a child in your wallet to save your money! Unbelievable, right? A study by Scottish psychologist Richard Wiseman says that a majority of lost wallets containing an infant’s picture were returned to the owner as compared to those that had family photos or pictures of an elderly couple.
9.      Windows XP’s default wallpaper called “Bliss” is the most viewed photograph till date. It was taken by American photographer Charles O’Rear in 1996 at Sonoma County, California.
10.  It is indeed an astonishing realisation that around 3 trillion photos were taken in the year 2016!

Top Bachelorship celebrating destinations in India for that One Last Party

There are pretty much what we’d do for a friend getting hitched for life. What would you do? Where would you give your friend the bachelor party he deserves before he gets domesticated? Let’s get our beer bottles ready and tighten them seat belts. I Nishan Kohli Presenting you the bachelor blowout destinations in India.

1.       Goa:

No bachelor blowout in India is complete without mentioning Goa. Party all night, binge on gourmet food, try out things your mummy warned you about, and then do them wild “things”. Like what people say about Vegas, let’s just say what happens in Goa, stays in Goa. Oh, and do visit Butterfly Island near Palolem .

2.       Rajasthan:

Let’s be rustic. And let’s kick some dunes. And then let’s camp in the desert. And then maybe chill around the bonfire. If your buddy is the adventurous type this is his place to be. Break the dunes and them beer bottles. Get your friend a kick-ass dune bashing experience – the 4×4 comes in the package. Put him behind the wheels, buckle up and let him bash the frustration of losing his bachelorhood. Don’t forget to try out the quintessential Rajasthani food with the rustic old world yet colorful people of Rajasthan.

3.       Leh:

Road Trips !! This is one experience which, proverbially, changes your life. Driving from Delhi to Ladakh is once in a lifetime experience and one you would definitely want to do with friends. In many ways, the unadulterated landscape of Ladakh stands in distinct difference to the beauty of Srinagarand its surroundings. Even so, the region is majestic and awe-inspiring with every turn of the wheel showing you a view you have never seen before. And if you are taking your buddy there on your own bike, make sure it’s ready for Ladakh!

4.       Himachal Pradesh:

If your buddy is a fan of the outdoors, hit this little place in Himachal Pradesh called Kasol. And then go zorbing or para gliding in Billing Valley. Maybe do a bungee jumping in Solang. Or maybe trek. Pick your favorite or all of them, pack your beer bottles and just drive. Not too far from Delhi, this is the place to be to enjoy those last few moments of unbridled bachelor hood before “marriage” happens.

5.       North-East:

Yes, many quite don’t realize that tucked away in the north east of our country is a jewel called the Seven Sisters. Start from Assam and take a drive. Giving you majestic views of the Himalayas, the seven sisters will literally take your breath away. Trek across the living roots in Meghalaya or take a boat ride along the Loktak lake. Spend days driving through the unparalleled terrain in Arunachal Pradesh and sample the brilliant food of Nagaland. Your choice. But the one choice you don’t have: spend an amazing time with your buddies.

6.       Kudle and Manipal:

So the groom is beach lover AND an adventure lover. No other better place to go than the Kudle – Udupi beach stretch. Hit Kudle in Karnataka for those midnight parties and impromptu jam sessions on the beach. There are also quite a few flea markets that happen every evening on the beach. Post that hit the party scene at Paradise or Half Moon beach. Spend a day or two here (they got amazing food) and then head out to Manipal for surfing. The Shaka Surf club there is pretty amazing and you get great views of the beach to boot.

7.       Lakshadweep:

Hire a yacht, load it with beers and sail out into the Arabian Sea. Or would you want to go kayaking? Or maybe you would want to do coral gazing? How about doing it a-la-“Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” and doing a scuba? Take your pick. You won’t be disappointed. Oh, and if you don’t know how to sail, there are crash courses available at Kadmat, Lakshadweep.

So prepare your bags and blowout this last bachelor party at one of the best destination. If you want to know more about places to travel visit my official website Nishan Kohli.

Make your Big Fat Indian Wedding Unforgettable with these 10 Ingenious Photo Concepts

Marriages are made in heaven. But it nauseates me to see amateur photographers cue beautiful couples in really funny poses that embarrass not just the pair, but their future children as well (who are looking into the wedding photos). To save you from that awkwardness, I, Nishan Kohli suggest 10 beautiful and creative photography ideas that’ll make the picture album full of memorable moments.

The Aerial Spin
Remember the scene from Mughal-e-Azam, the airborne shot of spinning Anarkali in Jab Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya song? Use it wisely!

Dynamic Duo
This is picture captures the couple mid-air when they jump. Photographers and the subjects can experiment with various other aerial poses.
The Long Dress
A click of the long flowing bridal dress will make your friends jealous. Just make sure the color is vivid and a hazy background is included.

Show off the Kids
Little toddlers and sweet three-year-olds will increase the cuddly and cute quotient of the picture. So make sure you grab your little nephew or niece (I prefer nieces) and boost the cuddliness.

Laces
A shot through the netted chunni or pallu will boost the ‘oomph’ factor. It doesn’t have to be really vibrant, in fact, I like them black-and-white.

The League of Extraordinary Bridesmaids
Antics of the bride and her girl gang will make a deadly combination for the click. Use a prop to make the picture more self-motivated.

One Ring to Rule them All
Like the bride and bridesmaid, the wolf pack can act goofy over the bride’s wedding ring. It adds a punch of humor and will make you smile uncontrollably when you remember your mates from this shot in your 50s.

Cheers
Snap a picture of the beer pitchers being clunked when cheering. This defines the festive mood of the wedding.

Puja Fever
The holy matrimony will be imprinted in this photo. Grab the sindoor ceremony through the sieving flames of the ritual fire. Try something different, other than the pheras.

The Thank You
Placards of ‘Thank’ and ‘You’ held by the couple will make an epic conclusion to the photo album.

Tips to Click Majestic Mountains!

Mountains are indubitably the troves of treasure which are explored to the hilt, whether for hiking, camping, snowboarding, photographing, or just sitting there soaking in the view. Mountains make you feel more alive and inspire than any other kind of landscape. The sweeping vistas full of rugged peaks as seen from high vantage points, preferably splashed in rich sunrise or sunset light, makes mountains the reason why most people venture up a mountain in the first place.

Nishan Kohli, a renowned photographer, is telling about how to photograph landscapes of alluring mountains by keeping creativity intact.
  • When photographing a grand landscape, the foremost thing is the landscape itself! The place. The location. Finding your own spot is the first step in the creative landscape photography process. Discover places that haven’t been clicked before and choose compositions that haven’t been chosen before.
  • When talking about finding your own locations, it doesn’t have to be a place that nobody has ever been before; after all the entire planet is more or less thoroughly explored and photographed by now. What meant here is to do your own research, come up with your own ideas and then pursue those ideas.
  • The next step is to seek that “special something”. Any striking landscape photo needs to have something special going on – something out of the ordinary. A splash of sunlight beaming through the clouds or trees. Foggy mist swirling around the peaks. A perfect reflection that adds symmetry to the composition. Things like this add that extra spice to an image and set it apart from a regular snapshot. They elevate a scene into more than just a static landscape, but a unique slice of time – an event in nature.
  • Framing the shot is without doubt the most hands-on, actively creative part of photography. Shooting grand landscapes is a somewhat traditional affair and it gets difficult to get wildly creative; after all, the subject is the landscape in front of you and you have to take what is given to you – you don’t have full control over the possibilities. That said you still have an immense amount of control over how you choose to present the landscape.
Creativity with grand scenic photography goes beyond just framing and taking the photos; it involves the entire process involving researching unique locations, coming up with original ideas to shoot and the adventures to get to the right place at the right time.

Tips for Fashion Photography!

Fashion_Photography (nishan)
The term fashion photography is often disfigured as sheer capturing of attires. People think it’s all about the costumes. Well, this is nothing but a figment of imagination. A photographer lacking the right knowledge of lighting, exposure, posing and composition can make even the well-done outfits look dull and lifeless when showcased in a catalog.
For a Portrait Photographer like Nishan Kohli, fashion photography revolves around the basic elements of photography along with the life and oomph of a model. Many people keep away from picking up a camera because they assume they lack an eye for photography. On the contrary, it doesn’t take flair to capture a sound portrayal. It only takes passion and motivation to master these skills. Fashion photography can be coped with as an equation; through just a set of guidelines. Here is a guide that will help you learn how to shoot miraculous fashion photos and master portraits:
  1. Portrait photography ought to express an essence of influence, so you must direct your model(s) in a confident and self-assured manner. Screening signs of nervousness, pressure or lack of command will consistently be reflected in the performance of your model. To avoid this, you have to make the subject feel comfortable and mixed up.
  2. Fashion photography revolves around clothes and exquisiteness, so you need to team up all the essentials of the landscape and the model to reflect this. For instance, if the shoot’s limelight is on the clothes– make use of make-up and hair styling to compliment the piece of clothing.
  3. Posing can be a catchy spot to master but leaf through the newest men’s and women’s magazines to mark a few enthused suggestions plus holding on what is in vogue.
  4. In case you are shooting in a studio set-up, make sure to meter all areas of the scene to avoid useless shadows. Also use an additional light meter other than the in-built one that will offer a more precise reading.

Tips for Professional Photographers!

Nishan photo
Photography is an art and photographer is an artist. Similar to any other artist, a photographer also needs to take care of certain things. Expert photographer Nishan Kohli has shared a few useful tips for the professional photographers. Read on to know more:
Be Original
These days a lot of youngsters want to take up photography as a career option and instead of bringing freshness and originality to their work they just copy the ideas from here and there. This is a wrong approach and if you want to work as a respected and sincere photographer then you must not copy the ideas of other photographers. It is good to get inspired but it is bad to copy!
Know the Technicalities
Always make sure that you are well aware of the technical aspects of photography. You must have an in-depth knowledge about the type of camera you want to use and why!
Use your imagination wisely
Apart from the technical aspects of photography, imagination and creativity also play a key role in determining the level of your photography. You should try and make full use of your creativity and imagination. Think of what all variations you can bring into a particular shot or think of the ways you can use the light to enhance a particular shot.
Wait for the right light
Light is an important aspect of photography and without the right kind of light a photographer cannot expect to get the desired results. Each and every photographer must understand the importance of light and must not make any compromise when it comes to this particular aspect of photography. Whether you are shooting in a studio or you are outdoors in the natural light, it is important to wait for the perfect light.
